Planning Engineer (Civil): lead civil project schedules with Primavera P6, coordinate design, procurement, and site teams to deliver safe, on‑time, compliant projects.
Job Overview
We are seeking a Planning Engineer (Civil) to develop, manage, and control project schedules and planning processes for construction projects. The role will support project delivery by preparing baseline and update schedules, coordinating with project management, design, procurement, and site teams, and ensuring timely, safe, and compliant execution of civil scope. The Planning Engineer will maintain planning documentation, support progress reporting, and contribute to risk and resource management activities on site and in the office.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and update project master schedules, baseline programmes, and detailed look-ahead plans for civil works (earthworks, foundations, structural, drainage, utilities, and roadworks).
Prepare and issue monthly/weekly progress reports, earned value analysis inputs, schedule narratives, and recovery plans as required by project management.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Design Engineers, Procurement, and subcontractors to obtain inputs, validate assumptions, and ensure alignment between schedule, resources, and workfronts.
Monitor progress against baseline schedules, identify delays and critical path activities, perform impact analysis, and propose mitigation and recovery measures.
Maintain and update programme records, milestone trackers, float usage logs, and interfaces between civil disciplines and other trades.
Prepare and maintain look-ahead schedules (4–12 weeks), daily/weekly work plans, and resource histograms to support site execution.
Manage schedule-related risks and opportunities, support change management by assessing time impacts for variations, RFIs, and site instructions.
Support planning workshops, progress meetings, and site coordination meetings; present schedule status, forecasts, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Develop and maintain programme dashboards, CPM analysis, time-cost integration for planning inputs, and handover schedules for commissioning and client acceptance.
Ensure planning deliverables are compliant with project procedures, contract requirements, and client reporting formats.
Develop project schedules using Primavera P6 / MS Project
· Monitor progress and update schedules regularly
· Prepare progress reports, S-curves, and resource histograms
· Analyze delays, risks, and recovery plans
· Coordinate planning inputs with engineering, procurement, and construction teams
· Support project management in decision-making
Required Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum 7–10 years' experience in project planning for civil construction projects, infrastructure, or heavy civils; experience on large-scale projects is preferred.
Proven experience preparing and maintaining CPM schedules, delay analysis, and recovery plans.
Knowledge of construction methods for earthworks, structural works, foundations, drainage, utilities, and temporary works.
Familiarity with contract scheduling requirements, milestone management, and claims avoidance practices.
Technical Skills
Proficient with Primavera P6 (preferred) or MS Project; strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
Experienced with schedule risk analysis, Earned Value Management (EVM), and time-cost integration techniques.
Ability to read construction drawings, BOQs, and method statements to derive activity logic and durations.
Familiar with BIM workflows and coordination between planning and design teams is advantageous.

Location & Reporting
This position reports to the Project Controls Manager or Project Manager and will work closely with construction, design, procurement, and client teams. The role will require regular presence at project sites and offices; specific site location and on-site expectations will be provided during recruitment.
